The Chicago Bulls have officially missed out on Amare Stoudemire, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. And, it looks like LeBron James will be added to that list on Thursday night. Now, they need to make a move. It looks like Carlos Boozer will be the next one to target. The Bulls would potentially add him to a lineup that includes Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Luol Deng. But even if they get Boozer, Chicago fans will feel left out. But that’s the way it works.

From ESPN:

Cousins has been compared to everyone from Shaq to Zach Randolph, but here’s an interesting historical comparison to ponder — could he be the next Moses Malone?

“He’s huge, he scores around the basket, he’s a terrific rebounder and he plays with a chip on his shoulder,” one GM said. “How many 20-10 centers come along? Not very many. As far as a talent goes, he could be incredible in the NBA. The league has gotten smaller and quicker. Cousins would kill most of the big guys in our league today.”

Cousins also fared well in the measurement category, comparing favorably in size to NBA centers. He measured a legit 6-foot-11 with a tremendous 7-foot-6 wingspan and 9-foot-5 standing reach. Those numbers put him on par with the likes of Dwight Howard, Greg Oden and Brook Lopez. His interviews weren’t nearly as bad as everyone made them out to be, either.

From ESPN:

Analysis: Anderson was one of the best scorers in college basketball and could be a very good fit in the Bulls’ backcourt. His ability to stretch the defense and attack the basket would make him a nice complement to Derrick Rose.

Even if the team ends up landing LeBron James or Dwyane Wade, look for Anderson to be the guy. As far as NBA-ready players go, there are few better in this draft. I’d expect him to play the same sort of role James Harden did in OKC last season.

Analysis: How can a guy who just measured with a freakish 7-foot-7 wingspan slip this far? The word out of Chicago was that the interviews didn’t go so well.

Whiteside isn’t a bad kid, but he’s very naive at this point, in a way that reminded me a bit of Tyrus Thomas.
The Bulls should set their sights on Joe Johnson.

In a big sports city like Chicago, good performances are expected. For a team that has been exiting first round lately, it is time for the Bulls to step up. Derrick Rose is an excellent player, but he clearly needs help. With the 2010 free agency coming, the Bulls need to target one man: Joe Johnson. Sure, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Amare Stoudemire are all better plays. But the odds of any of them coming to Chicago are very slim. Joe Johnson is in his prime, and is 28 years of age. By the time a long-term contract would end, yes, he will probably be a little out of his prime. But someone with his shooting ability will be a valuable asset until his career ends.

Joe Johnson is likely frustrated with the under whelming playoff performances that Atlanta put on. And just like everyone else, Johnson will be eager to see what is out there for him. If the Bulls reach out to Johnson immediately, he will likely be very receptive. A backcourt of Rose and Johnson would likely be the best in the entire league. It is up to Chicago to make it happen.

After six months and 81 games, this roller coaster of a season for the Bulls comes down to the regular- season finale tonight in Charlotte.

A win will send them to the playoffs for the second consecutive year and the fifth time in six years. A loss could send them into the offseason. The Bulls set up the drama with an impressive finish in a 101-93 victory Tuesday over the Boston Celtics at the United Center.

Derrick Rose led the way with a career-high 39 points on 15-for-22 shooting, and Kirk Hinrich added a season-high 30 points on 11-for-20 shooting, including 4-for-7 from three-point range.

''Derrick just kept attacking, and Kirk hit some big shots down the stretch," coach Vinny Del Negro said. ''[Hinrich] stepped up big for us, and our energy was fantastic. Everyone contributed.''

Chicago Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said an ESPN.com report that a decision to fire him already has been made is "totally not accurate." Citing sources with knowledge of the Bulls' thinking, Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine reported on Sunday night that a decision has been made and the Bulls are just waiting to find Del Negro's replacement.

The coach said he and Bulls management are on the same page, and Del Negro told reporters to ask vice president of basketball operations John Paxson or general manager Gar Forman about the situation. Forman declined to speak to reporters after practice Monday.

Phone messages left for Paxson and Forman were not returned on Sunday, but in text messages to ESPN The Magazine on Sunday night, Paxson neither confirmed nor denied the report.

"It's just funny to me," Del Negro said. "There's really nothing to say. You have all these people that have rumors, and everyone has their sources. It's just not accurate.

History has shown that it's never too late for the Bulls to turn things around. In 2004-05, they started 2-13 and recovered to win 47 games. Last year, they won 12 of their last 16 to finish with a .500 record.

So to call the coming week a critical stretch for the Bulls would be an overstatement. But it would help if they could end a run of four straight lopsided losses before the team's chemistry and confidence suffer lasting harm.

Bigger challenges await them down the road, but the Bulls began their five-game Western trip with an impressive and mostly comfortable -- save for a few minutes in the fourth quarter -- 101-87 victory over the Sacramento Kings late Tuesday.
"That fourth quarter wasn't real pretty, but fortunately we got some stops when we needed to and came out with the victory,'' Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. "A good start to a long trip."

This was the first meeting of the teams since that big trade last February, so it was only fitting that guard John Salmons, the key to the deal from the Bulls' perspective, busted out of his recent shooting funk to led the team with 23 points on 9-for-18 shooting.

“That fourth quarter wasn’t real pretty, but fortunately we got some stops when we needed to and came out with the victory,” Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. “A good start to a long trip.”

Whether he was shooting a video game commercial with Kobe Bryant or coaching teens in China with Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose had no trouble finding things to do during the offseason. He wound up with some unwelcome downtime the past few weeks. The reigning Rookie of the Year for the Chicago Bulls was sidelined most of the preseason by an inflamed tendon behind his right ankle.

So as the curtain rises on the second act of a promising NBA career, Rose is just a little restless.

"It's hard knowing that I want to play against some of the good players that are out there, be with my team," Rose said. "We've got so many new players on the team. They're young. They're still trying to learn. We just need to hurry up and jell quick because we can make it far in the season."
